I build dashboards for operations teams. Somebody has numbers in four places and no way to see them together, and by the end they have one screen they check every morning. Most of the work is SQL and the conversation before it. The question people ask is rarely the question they need answered, and getting from one to the other is what makes the difference between a dashboard that gets used and one that is bookmarked and forgotten. Logistics and SaaS are where I have spent most of my time. Project work suits this: a dashboard has a beginning and an end, and after that you want somebody occasionally rather than every day.
