I keep the books for service businesses. Invoicing, chasing what is owed, categorising what went out, reconciling, and closing each month so the year end is dull. Most of my clients bill by project or by retainer, which makes revenue recognition the thing that goes wrong. I set it up properly at the start so your profit and loss reflects the month the work happened rather than the month somebody paid. I do not give tax advice and I will say so. What I do is hand your accountant a clean set of books, which is usually what they were hoping for.
