Engagements and contracts
Accepting terms, signing, and what survives if the client's plan ends.
An offer of work
Arrives in your conversation as a card stating what is proposed: the type of work, a rate, a currency, whether the rate is hourly or monthly, expected hours, and a start date.
Accept it or decline it from the card, without leaving the conversation. Declining is a normal answer and it is not marked in red anywhere.
Accepting starts an engagement, which is what hours, contracts and invoices hang off.
One live engagement per client
You and a given client have one offered or active engagement at a time. A rate change is the current one ending and a new one being offered, which keeps your hours and invoices attached to the terms they were actually agreed under.
Being hired by the same client again later is normal, and your lists group by person and say which collaboration this is.
Rates are never converted
Whatever currency the terms were agreed in is what both of you see, everywhere, always. Showing them in another currency would make a number two people agreed on look like an estimate.
Contracts
The client drafts and sends; you countersign by typing your own name, and that activates it.
Signing requires a verified ID. A signature is a claim about who you are.
Once signed, the document cannot be changed by anybody, not you, not them, not us. New terms are a new version to sign, not an edit. Both of you can download the PDF, and it says exactly what the screen says.
Anybody you hand the PDF to can check it is real at /verify-contract, which returns a hash, a version and the dates, and never a name and never the content.
If the client's plan ends
Their side locks. Yours does not, in the ways that matter to you:
- You can still log and submit hours. They queue up, nothing is lost, and
nothing has to be re-entered when the client renews. Only their reviewing freezes.
- You can still end the engagement. Blocking that would trap the one party
who has done nothing wrong.
- Signed contracts stay readable and downloadable for both of you.
- You can still be paid, and still record it. Marking an invoice paid and
confirming it are never blocked, because recording that money changed hands protects you.
What stops is new business from their side: sending an offer, sending an invoice, publishing a job.
Ending one
Either side, with a reason. Everything that happened stays exactly where it was.
