Reporting a problem

If something here is wrong, tell us. It goes to a real queue that a person reads.

What can be reported

• A conversation, or one message inside it. Reporting a single message

keeps a copy of that message as it is now, so it still counts if it is deleted afterwards.

• A job post: by any freelancer who can see it.
• A profile: by any signed-in client, including a free one.
• A video introduction: by any client.
• A review: by the freelancer it was written about.

Freelancers cannot report other freelancers' profiles. Opening that would turn the directory into a place competitors file reports about each other, which is not what a report queue is for. If something about a profile worries you as a freelancer, tell us directly.

Choosing a reason

The reasons offered change with what you are reporting, because they have to. Harassment is a thing a person does in a conversation; a profile page cannot harass anybody, so that reason is not offered there. Everything that is not on the list belongs under "Something else" with a sentence from you.

The details box is optional and it is the most useful part. What somebody said or did helps far more than how it felt.

What happens next

A report is filed with a snapshot of the evidence taken at that moment, so editing or deleting the thing afterwards does not erase what was complained about. For a job post the snapshot includes the pay and the screening questions, which you cannot see on the public page: that is deliberate, because "not what it says it is" is a claim about a difference, and only one side of it survives on its own.

You will get a notification when the report has been looked at. It says the report was resolved or dismissed, and nothing else: it never tells you what we did about the other person, because that is between us and them.

"Dismissed" means read and closed with nothing needing to be done. A report that produced nothing is not a report that was wrong to make.

What the other person is told

Never that you reported them, and never who did. If a warning is issued they are told what the warning is for, in our own words. If something is taken down, its owner is told it was taken down. See moderation.
