Applicants and invitations

The queue

One block per applicant, with the person and their application both on screen, not folded behind a disclosure. The fold made the queue scannable and made it a queue you had to open one row at a time.

Each block carries their own title for the application, their intro, their answers to your screening questions, and the actions.

"New" means submitted and less than a week old. A fortnight-old application is not new, whatever you have or have not done about it.

Viewed

An application is marked viewed when you have actually had it on screen long enough to read it, rather than when you press a button saying you did.

Freelancers are not shown this. The application tracker on their side lists the job, who posted it, when they applied and a way back into the conversation, and nothing about how much attention you have paid. "Viewed a week ago and nothing since" is worse than silence.

What you can do

• Save them to a folder, exactly like saving from the directory.
• Message them.
• Offer work: the accepting action, and the start of an engagement. See

offering work.

• Decline. They are told, and they are not told why unless you say so.

Inviting somebody to apply

From a profile: "Invite to apply", pointed at one of your published jobs. It lands in your conversation with them as a card they can act on.

An invitation asks a question. An offer of work proposes terms, which is the end of a hiring conversation rather than the beginning.

Declining an invitation is permanent, and the confirmation says so: you cannot re-invite the same person to the same job. That is the anti-nag position, and it is deliberate.

Applying requires verification

Only ID-verified freelancers can apply, so everybody in your queue has had a government ID checked by a person.
