Creating your profile

Signing up starts a flow of ten steps and a review. It takes about twenty minutes if you have your ID to hand.

The steps

1. About you: name, date of birth, gender, photo, address.
2. How you work: the kind of work you want, hours a week, your working

hours, and whether they are fixed.

1. Your profile: your headline and your bio.
2. How clients reach you: email, phone, which of them clients may see, and

your links.

1. Skills, tools and industries: with a star rating and a start month on

every one.

1. Your background: work and education history, languages, your work setup,

and the optional tests.

1. Verify: your ID. Skippable, and the step says what skipping costs.
2. Video intro: optional.
3. How you heard about us.
4. Review and publish.

Nothing is lost between steps. Each one saves as you type, so going back costs nothing, and a step you refuse to finish keeps everything you typed rather than emptying itself.

What publishing requires

A photo, your name, date of birth and gender, your address and region, an hourly rate at or above the floor, hours a week, a headline, a bio, at least one skill, one tool and one industry, at least one language including English, and a phone number.

ID verification is not required to publish. You can be listed without it. What you cannot do without it is read a job's pay, see who posted it, message anybody, or apply. See ID verification.

A video is not required either. It raises your profile score and blocks nothing.

Publishing is immediate

There is no review queue for profiles. Submit means live. Editing a live profile is live the moment you save.

What locks, and when

Your name, date of birth and gender lock when your ID is verified, not at publication. The lock exists so a verified name cannot change afterwards, which is a reason to lock it at the check rather than at an unrelated event.

Everything else stays editable for ever, including your photo, your address and your phone number.

After publishing

Everything lives on your profile editor: the same sections in the same order as the flow. Onboarding itself becomes unreachable once you finish, so the editor is where you go, and it has a section for everything the flow asked.
